Six Shooter had been nominated for the BAFTA short film award in 2005 before winning the Academy Award for Best Short Film in 2006. Six Shooter is a black comedy in which a husband (played by Brendon Gleeson) is returning home after his wife has died in hospital only to discover that he is not the only one who has come from the hospital and a cocky young man (Rúaidhrí Conroy) is about turn the train ride into a comic tragedy.

Tuileries by Joel & Ethan Coen  (2004) (France/USA) (6m)

Tuileries was commissioned alongside True and a host of other short films by the French capital for its Paris, Je T'Aime (Paris, I Love You) anthology. Steve Buscemi is a tourist in the eponymous metro station, which is located near The Louvre. He mistakenly catches eyes with a woman on the opposite platform and her boyfriend takes an instant dislike to the mild-mannered American. It is enjoyable enough but perhaps not their best work. You decide.

What's a Nice Girl

What's A Nice Girl Like You... by Martin Scorcese (1963) (US) (9m)

Directors don't come much more famous than the Oscar-winning Martin Scorcese, perhaps still best known for his early films Taxi Driver and Goodfellas. But we all have to start somewhere and Scorcese made several shorts before he hit the Mean Streets. What's a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This? is one of his earliest and, although set in New York, is nothing like his dark and violent features...

Small Deaths by Lynne Ramsey (1996) (UK) (11m)

Small Deaths was the first short film from Scottish auteur Lynne Ramsey, who went on to make feature films such as We Need To Talk About Kevin. Like many of her early films, it is based on personal memories and experiences of childhood, set in a Glasgow housing estate. It is an intimate exploration and reflection of loss in one girl's life.
