THE BLOOD OF YINGZHOU DISTRICT - RUBY YANG (2006)

The Blood Of Yingzhou District by Ruby Yang was nominated for a Best Short Documenatary Oscar in 2006. The "blood" in the title is infected with AIDS, a disease that has decimated parts of rural China and which was caused at least in part by the Communist regime using tainted blood in transfusions. The Blood Of Yingzhou District looks at the lives of children orphaned by the disease and especially how they are ostracized by others in the community, often through fear of infection. Yang went on to make the Oscar-nominated short documentary The Warriors Of Qiugang in 2010. If you like The Blood Of Yingzhou District be sure to share it!
